Interning at Zeytini Restaurant and Bar
At 2213 S Shore Center Alameda, CA 94501
How it all started
My Internship started out about six months ago in July when I was looking for an internship around South Shore. I came across this restaurant and I didn't know anything about it so I walked in asked if I could get an internship. By the next week I was in, I got an intern position in the kitchen of Zeytini. I didn't know what kind of restaurant it was or what the ambient was. I showed up in my Chefs coat and my knife kit on my back. That day I got the tour of the kitchen and what kind of food they serve, and they also mapped out how long I would be there per day and what my schedule would be like from then on while I needed to do my hours.I told them that I needed 10-15 hours a week for six to eight months. These are the current internship requirements to enroll into the Culinary Institute of America.
Daily Day
A day at Zeytini begins with me coming in at 5pm and looking at anything that needs to be prepared. That is usually basil, parsley, shallots, sun dried tomatoes, and refilling cheese containers. After that the cooks and I wait for customers to come in and when a customer comes in I am usually in charge of cooking the side vegetables and the side potatoes. The potatoes are either mashed or roasted, and the vegetables are sauteed.
